hi everyone

I am cross posting this to both the A.M forum and the yahoo group in the hope I
will get some kind volunteers to help me out with my blog for the upcoming tour.

As much as I would love to go to all of the shows for this tour I don’t like
seeing a grown man cry so rather than ask my boss for some time off I am
contenting myself to going to most of the weekend gigs and some local-ish ones
in between.

I would love to have some sort of record on my blog about each of the shows so
wants to ask if anyone would be willing to send me the set list for the shows I
miss out on and if able to, a write up on the support and Augie March on the
night. also if you take any photos at the gig I would love to put those up as
well – of the bands or the audience.

I try to at least get the set list up that night for the people overseas and
everyone else who can’t get to the gigs but as long as it is sent to me before
the next gig that would be great.

Of course I will credit you with whatever I put up.

these are the shows including those I am going to-

thoughts about the tour at the end as you are going to most if not all of the

I can’t believe that the tour starts next week. I have got my flights booked for Perth (just going to one of the shows there), Adelaide and Canberra and will also hopefully be going to the Geelong and Ballarat shows as well as the Melbourne gig (of course). I am still tossing up about the Tassie shows. Castlemaine and Meeniyan are also possibilities if I can figure out where they are ha ha

and I received a Flight of the Conchords dvd from one of my friends (thanks Versar) so this weekend I will watch it and find out who the crazy fan Mel is!!!!

I’m gonna get it back, gonna get better,

These lyrics are from Farmer’s Son from the album Watch Me Disappear.

Yesterday two of my friends and I did some volunteer work for a community group in Whittlesea which was one of the areas affected by the Victorian bush fires earlier this year.

It was a day of mixed emotions for me, I loved seeing the joy on the faces of the kids when doing something as simple as giving them a balloon though I think my favourite smiles were from the little girls who got turned into fairies and princesses in the dress up costumes available but at the same time it was sad to think of what they have gone through just a few months ago.

Some of the parents talked to me about how their lives have been for the past few months and they have endured suffering that I can’t begin to imagine. Yet they focused not on what they had lost but instead on what they had gained, the overwhelming kindness and support of strangers, their friends who had rallied around them and
how much events like this one meant to them and especially to their children.

When we had finished packing up we went for a drive through Kinglake, another area decimated by the fires and I spent most of the time looking out the window of the car with my mouth agape and tears in my eyes.

There were huge tracts of bush still showing the after-effects of the fires, water tanks that had melted, sheds that had buckled in the heat and burnt out cars and buildings.

There is a lot of joy to be seen as well, the building going on everywhere, the new growth amongst the burnt trees, the signs thanking the CFA volunteers who worked so tirelessly.

It was shocking to drive past large areas that had been totally burnt and then to pass sections which were untouched by the fire.

As mentioned at the beginning, this was a day of mixed emotions for me. A stark reminder of just how devastating fire can be and how courageous people are in adversity.

Being fairly new to living in Melbourne I continue to feel such excitement at the number of events and activities available here for us to see and do and hear.

I thought I would put up some photos from the things I went to yesterday in the city. If you are in Melbourne and get a chance do go and have a look.

Federation Square has it’s annual The Light In Winter Festival on and last night I went and had a play in the light columns that make up Volume, an installation of light and music

The columns flicker on and off and change colour and are accompanied by a soundtrack. Adults and kids alike had fun exploring and playing within the art piece.

for more information about this and the other pieces they have planned as part of this festival go to the Fed Square website

I then went to the Docklands and had an evening of more free entertainment. They had a shadow puppet performance called Sticks and Stones which had everyone laughing and we were then treated to a hard to describe musical and visual spectacle.

The Pyrophone Juggernaut was a group of percussionists who used fire to make incredible music from a huge sculpture consisting of large pipes.

You can find out more about the pyrophone juggernaut at the Docklands website – it only goes for another week so i am going to try and get back there next weekend to see it once more.

Is it illegal?

To rescue a tour poster you saw which was trapped and cold on a lamp post in downtown Geelong?

For the record there were two other Augie tour posters left on the pole :)

It is always exciting to find the first street poster up for a tour. There is a large pole near Flinders Station that I always scour to see who is touring.

It’s all about to start up again

If I wasn’t so busy at work I would be getting very excited about the upcoming Augie shows. I haven’t quite figured out exactly which shows I will be going to suffice to say there will be lots of driving and yes….. airplanes involved. Woooohooooooo
